Import Your Entries
Bring your journaling history from another app into Journoo. Entries keep their original date, title and location, and photos come along when the export includes them. Import is available to all Journoo users.
What you can import
- Apps Journoo reads directly: Day One, Apple Journal, Journey and Rosebud.
- Generic files: CSV, Markdown and plain text. This covers apps like Mindsera, jrnl, Obsidian, Diarly and Reflection, plus files you made yourself.
- Not accepted: PDFs, unknown JSON and unrecognised zips. Apps that only export PDF, such as Penzu and Reflectly, cannot be imported.
Import a file
- Open Settings → Import.
- Tap Choose file and pick your export file (.zip, .md, .txt or .csv).
- Confirm the preview: date range, entries and photos.
- Tap the Add button to proceed.
- Journoo emails you when the import is complete.
- Open the Import page to see a summary, including how many entries were imported and how many were already in Journoo.
Note: Imported entries cannot be deleted, so check the preview before you confirm.
What imported entries look like
- Entries appear in your Explore archive with their original date and look like any other entry. You can edit the title, favorite, tags and people.
- Journoo reads through your entries and makes connections, so your past entries will shape future responses.
- The source app shows in the Entry Device field on the Summary tab. Filter by it in Explore to find specific imports.
- Streaks and stats count imported entries. Mood charts do not.
- Imports do not count against your daily entry, word or photo limits.
Important notes
- Entries already in Journoo are skipped.
- Your Journoo copy always wins. Re-importing never overwrites anything.
- There is no undo and no delete.
Limits
- Files over about 100 MB are refused. Export a shorter date range and import in parts.
- One import at a time. After an import of more than 1,000 entries, please wait 24 hours before your next import.
How to Export from Other Apps
- Day One: export the journal as JSON. The export zip includes photos.
- Apple Journal: open Settings → Apps → Journal → Export All Journal Entries. Set your iPhone language to English before exporting, otherwise Journoo cannot read the file.
- Journey: open Settings → Data & Cloud Services, choose your cloud service, then Export/Backup. For a single entry, tap Share, then Export to ZIP.
- Rosebud: open Settings → Export on mobile, or Settings → Export to Markdown on the web.
- Other apps: export as CSV, Markdown or plain text. Import works best when each entry has a date at the top.
